Chase Bank
Chase Bank was formed in 1955 through the merger of Chase National Bank and The Manhattan Company which created Chase Manhattan Bank. In 1996, Chemical Bank of New York, a leader in the mergers and acquisitions markets, purchased Chase Manhattan Bank and retained the Chase Manhattan Bank name because of its financial market cache. In 2000, the combined Chase Manhattan Bank acquired JPMorgan and Company in one of the largest financial institution mergers to date. The combined banking companies were then renamed JPMorgan Chase and have made other notable acquisitions including the addition of Bank One in 2004 that made Chase the largest credit card issuer in the United States. JPMorgan Chase also acquired Bear Stearns & Company and Washington Mutual in 2008.
