Dog Neutering

Pet neutering is a sterilization process a male dog undergoes, while for females it is called dog spaying. A veterinarian can perform dog neutering or spaying at a dog clinic. This service can be as important to your pet as vaccination programs and should be considered an important aspect of pet care if you no longer want your pet to be able to sire or birth puppies.

Dog neutering is a simple surgery where your animal is placed under anesthesia at a dog clinic. With pet neutering your animal will be incised in front of the scrotum and his testicles will be removed. The incision may be small enough that your animal doesn’t even need stitches from the veterinarian. However, it is surgery and there is risk of infection so you will want to be sure your pet is up on vaccination programs and in good health.

Dog spaying and dog neutering both have the positive benefits of your animal not spraying, or at least marking their territory less. You dog who has undergone pet neutering will be calmer, with a milder temperament in most cases since he will have less testosterone in his system. This means less aggression and many animals do far less humping of legs once they’ve been fixed. Your pet is also less likely to get testicular cancer and prostate diseases once he has been neutered. So, there are definite health and behavioral benefits to pet neutering. Eight weeks old is the soonest you can visit your veterinarian to get you pet neutered or spayed.
